Head of School's Message
As we approach the time of year when giving gifts to teachers and key workers often becomes a tradition, we would like to take a moment to share the approach we take at Roots Federation.

For those families and children preparing to leave us, please know that the greatest gift you have given is entrusting us with your child’s early years and allowing us to be a part of their journey. Watching them grow, learn, and prepare for their next chapter is a privilege.
We want to gently emphasise that we neither expect nor request any gifts. A simple card with a heartfelt message is truly the most meaningful gesture any member of our team can receive.

If you do wish to give something, we kindly ask that any gifts be given to the nursery rather than to individuals.
These might include a picture book for our library, new utensils for the mud kitchen, or other items that all children can enjoy. These shared contributions help us continue creating joyful, enriching experiences for the children who will follow in your child’s footsteps.

Book & Rhyme of the week
Our Talk for Writing Book is "Handa's Surprise" by Eileen Browne.

The story will move into the innovation phase of the EYFS Talk For Writing programme, where the children will make changes to the original story such as characters, settings, or events while maintaining the structure and style of the original text. This will involve activities such as creating story maps and expressing their unique ideas through language, both written and spoken. This phase is essential in fostering a love for storytelling and a deeper understanding of narrative structures.

Our key vocabulary of the text is "Delicious", "Ripe", "Surprise", "Village", "Wonder" and "Tangy". Please see below link to the story;

Language of the week
We are lucky to have a rich and diverse community with lots of different languages. Our language of the week is Malayalam, which is spoken by one of our pupils and their family. Please find below links of how to say "Hello" and "Goodbye" in Malayalam. Please practise with your child at home.

Learning At Home
This week at nursery, we've been exploring all things wheels!

Why not to take your child on a ''Wheel Hunt'' at home or on a walk?

See how many things with wheels you can spot - cars, trolleys, scooters, toys..
Talk about what wheels do and who uses them.
Can your child find big wheels, small wheels or something surprising on wheels?

Have fun!
Success Story of the Week
This week has been "Wheels Week" at the Nursery.

The children have got to experience riding and moving around in a paediatric wheelchair.
They have also practised their cycling skills by using the trikes and following a route around the playground.
They have learnt about what makes wheels work and to manoeuver themselves safely and also to take turns with their peers.
