Fresh air, active bodies, brighter minds

At Heath Lane Nursery School, we are convinced some of the best learning happens under the open sky. Our outdoor learning spaces are carefully designed to spark creativity, curiosity, and confidence, where every puddle, pebble, and petal becomes part of the adventure.
Our well-equipped playground encourages physical development, coordination, and teamwork. The mound is a firm favourite for exploring, rolling, and imaginative play, offering natural challenges for climbing and new perspectives on the world. Whether it’s climbing, sliding, running, or swinging, children move freely, play collaboratively, and build the foundations for learning in every activity.
The magical treehouse invites big imaginations and little adventurers. It’s the perfect spot for storytelling, observation, and understanding the world, as well as a quiet retreat for small group activities during busy outdoor adventures.
Through gardening, children learn to care for living things and watch the magic of growth unfold, from planting seeds to picking herbs. This nurtures patience, responsibility, and a connection to nature. Messy play in our mud kitchen allows children to mix, pour, scoop, and stir, developing fine motor skills, imagination, and collaborative problem-solving.
Our sandpit is a sensory-rich environment for digging, pouring, shaping, and creating, while the potion lab sparks curiosity where science and storytelling collide. Water play encourages investigation, exploring flow, volume, and motion.
In the construction area, children become builders and problem-solvers, using blocks, crates, tools, and loose parts to design, create, and collaborate on big ideas. The music cove lets rhythm meet nature, with outdoor instruments and space to dance, sing, and express themselves freely.
Most importantly, our outdoor areas are open-ended, allowing children to roam, wonder, and discover. By moving their bodies, exploring, and experimenting outdoors, they develop confidence, independence, and curiosity, laying the groundwork for brighter minds both inside and beyond the classroom.
