Nurturing Confidence
At Heath Lane Nursery School, we consider confidence to be the foundation for lifelong learning. Through gentle guidance, thoughtful planning, and meaningful interactions, we help every child feel safe, seen, and celebrated.
Our carefully planned adult-led sessions provide structure and security, while introducing key skills in fun and engaging ways. These sessions support early learning goals, encourage participation, and build confidence through success.
Children grow when they’re given the chance to try new experiences. Whether it’s tasting a new food, exploring a new material, or joining a new activity, we create a safe space for children to step outside their comfort zone and feel proud of their achievements.

We value quality interactions by facilitating warm, responsive conversations that help children feel understood and empowered. Through listening, modelling, and encouragement, we build strong relationships that support emotional development.
Using the Zones of Regulation, we help children recognise and manage their feelings. With colours, visuals, and daily check-ins, we support emotional awareness and teach practical strategies to help children feel calm, in control, and ready to learn.
We understand that strong bodies support strong minds, which is why we place an importance up physical development. From fine motor activities to big body movement, we offer a wide range of opportunities to develop strength, coordination, and confidence through physical play and exploration.

Each week, we introduce a fruit or vegetable of the week, giving children the chance to explore new tastes, learn about healthy choices, and develop confidence in trying new things. We also teach children how to bake and offer a wide range of sensory experiences. From putting on their own coat to pouring a drink, we encourage independence through everyday self-help skills. These moments of “I did it!” build resilience, pride, and the belief that they can do anything they set their mind to.

We support children through every transition—whether it’s moving between activities, joining a group, or preparing for school. With familiar routines, clear communication, and a focus on emotional well-being, we help each child move forward with confidence.
