Love of Books
At Heath Lane Nursery School, we believe that every child deserves to experience the magic of stories. Our approach nurtures a deep and lasting connection with reading, sparking imagination, curiosity, and confidence.
Through Talk for Writing, children internalise language structures by hearing and retelling stories. This hands-on, creative method helps build vocabulary, develop storytelling skills, and boosts early reading and writing confidence.
Our cosy reading corner is a quiet haven for children to curl up with a good book. Filled with a wide range of books and comfy seating, it’s a space where children can explore books independently, with friends, or alongside an adult.
We make stories inclusive with sensory storytelling. Using touch, sound, sight, and sometimes even smell, we bring tales to life for children with different learning styles and needs. Every child can feel the magic of a good story.
Our story sacks are full of wonder! Each one contains a carefully chosen book along with props, games, and activities that help bring the story to life. Children can explore stories through play, imagination, and discovery at home.
Whether it’s a celebration, transition, or just because, we love gifting books to our children. We are committed to ensuring every child is given a book to keep each term. To celebrate each child’s birthday, we encourage their family to gift a book back to the nursery. It’s our way of showing that books are a joy to be shared, and that reading is a gift in itself.
We arrange visits our local library to explore even more books and foster a connection with the wider reading community. Children learn how to borrow books, discover new authors, and experience the excitement of a real library environment.
We love the rhythm and rhyme of poetry! Our annual poetry recital gives children the chance to learn, perform, and enjoy poems aloud—building confidence, expression, and a real appreciation for the beauty of language.
