Head of School's message

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful break and are enjoying the sunshine now that it has finally arrived.

As we begin our new half term, our nursery values are Safe, Confident, and Respectful. We will be supporting the children to develop these qualities in everything they do, helping them to feel secure in their environment, confident to try new experiences, and respectful towards their friends, staff, and surroundings

We are delighted to welcome a new member of staff, Mel, to our team. Mel brings a wealth of experience in early years education, and we are very excited to have her join us. I’m sure you will join us in making her feel very welcome.

It promises to be a busy and exciting half term ahead, including the much-anticipated arrival of our ducklings! This is always a magical learning experience for the children, and we look forward to sharing it with you.

Book & Rhyme of the week

The next Structured Stories Book is "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle.

Next week the story will move into the imitation phase of Structured Stories, where children will focus on the story structure identifying the beginning, middle and end. This will involve activities such as retelling the story with actions, creating story maps and performing the text aloud. This phase is to provide a solid foundation through understanding and practising the language patterns and structure of the text.

Our key vocabulary of the text is "Caterpillar", "Cocoon", "Chrysalis", "Butterfly", "Moth" and "Hungry".

Please see below link to story;

The Rhyme of the week for after half term is "Five Little Ducks".

This Rhyme has a Maths focus looking at numbers 0 to 5.

We are lucky to have a rich and diverse community with lots of different languages. Our language of the week is Hindi, which is spoken by some of our children and their families.

Please find below links of how to say "Hello" and "Goodbye" in Hindi. You can practise with your child/ren at home.

Learning at home

This week we have been inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar!

At home, you can continue the learning with this fun maths activity focusing on capacity and weight.

🥣 Activity 1: Capacity Fun (Full, Empty, Half Full)

You will need:

  • Different sized cups, bowls or containers

  • A jug of water (or dry rice/pasta for less mess!)

  • A spoon

What to do:

  • Ask your child to fill containers and talk about what they notice.

  • Can they make a container full?

  • Can they make it half full?

  • Which container holds more? Which holds less?

  • What happens when it is too full?

  •

Encourage your child to compare sizes and predict what will happen before pouring.

Maths language to use: full, empty, half full, nearly full, more, less, biggest, smallest.

Healthy me, Healthy world

This half term our curriculum will include a focus on online safety, helping our children to begin to understand how to be safe, confident and respectful when using technology. Our online safety learning is age-appropriate and focuses on the basics of recognising trusted adults, asking for help if something online feels upsetting or unfamiliar, and beginning to build positive digital habits alongside play and exploration. We will share key messages with children and families and encourage open conversations about screen time, content and online interactions. For parents and carers looking for support at home, helpful resources include Internet Matters’ Early Years online safety guides (practical tips and activity ideas) , Childnet’s child-friendly SMART rules and stories to explore safe choices , and the UK Government’s Online Safety Parent Hub, which offers simple, trustworthy advice on talking to young children about online risks and digital wellbeing.

Success story of the week

This week in Nursery, the children have been exploring a variety of foods inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

We tasted and investigated foods such as salami, Swiss cheese, pickles, and a selection of fresh fruits.

The children used their senses of touch, smell, and taste to explore each food. They talked about textures (smooth, bumpy, soft), described smells, and were encouraged to try new flavours.

It was wonderful to see so many children showing curiosity and confidence when experiencing unfamiliar foods!
