Head of School's Message

At Roots Federation and Heath Lane Nursery School, we remain committed to supporting families in every way we can. We understand the challenges of balancing school expectations with family life, and we continually look for ways to reduce costs and make things easier for you.

One simple way we do this is by providing a rail in our foyer with spare jumpers and winter coats. Please do help yourself if you see something that could be useful for your child. Likewise, if you are having a clear out, we would be very grateful for any pre-loved clothes that might benefit another family.

Our uniform policy is also designed with affordability and sustainability in mind. While wearing uniform is optional, some families choose it for convenience. We will continue to ensure that uniform items are available at a reasonable cost, represent good value for money, and promote sustainable practices.

We also make every effort to avoid asking for additional money for charity donations, dress-up days, or off-site visits. If you are facing financial difficulties which you feel are impacting your child, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We may be able to signpost you to further support, including local foodbanks and charities.

Rhyme of the week

Next week's Rhyme of the week is '5 Little Speckled Frogs'

We will be using this rhyme to discuss the different types of weather outside and what we might need to wear during our transitions outside.

Language of the week

We are lucky to have a rich and diverse community with lots of different languages. Our language of the week is Greek, which is spoken by one of our practitioners Effie and her family.

Please find below links of how to say "Hello" and "Goodbye" in Greek. Please practise with your child at home.

Healthy Me, Healthy World

As part of our Healthy Me, Healthy World curriculum thread, the children will be learning about sustainability and how we can take care of our planet together. Next week, we are focusing on Water Week – exploring the importance of water for our health, for play, and for the environment. We will be teaching children how to put on wellies and waterproofs, so they can play outside in all weathers.

To support our learning, we are inviting families to help us collect empty squeezy bottles (e.g., washing-up liquid, sauce, or shampoo bottles). We will reuse these bottles for water play and activities, giving them a new life instead of throwing them away. This simple activity helps children understand that small changes, like reusing and recycling, can make a big difference for our world. If you have any empty bottles, please pop them in our donation station when you drop off your child.

Success Story of the Week

The children have found evidence of fairies living in our garden.

They have collected lots of natural loose parts including seeds, acorns and leaves and left them as fairy food for the fairies.

One group were very excited to receive a letter from the fairies thanking them for being so kind and thoughtful.
