Head of School's Message
Many of our children and their families are preparing to transition to primary school. Being ready for school does not mean your child needs to be able to read or write their own name, although it’s great if they can!

There are some practical skills that will make life easier for your child when starting school. We have been practising some of them at nursery and is helpful for you to reinforce these at home. They include:

-
Putting on their coat and doing it up
-
Taking on and off jumpers, cardigans and other clothes
-
Using the toilet on their own and remembering to wash their hands
-
Sitting at a table to eat
-
Using a tissue and reinforcing the “catch it, bin it, kill it” routine
-
Carrying out simple tasks independently like remembering their own bookbag

There is lots of useful advice online, which you can find linked below.

Dates coming up:

Last day of the Summer Term - Friday 18th July.

Reminders:
No children should be playing on any of the playground equipment during drop off or at collection. Please supervise your children whilst they are in the playground.

There will be transition days coming up for those children moving to a Reception class in September. Please ensure that you notify the office via email.
Book & Rhyme of the week
Our new Talk for Writing Book is "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" by Mara Alperin and Kate Pankhurst.

Next week marks the immersion phase of the EYFS Talk For Writing programme, where children will explore the story through various engaging activities. They will explore the tastes and textures of a variety of exotic fruits. This phase is crucial for developing understanding and language.

Our key vocabulary of the text is "Snarl", "Meadow", "Trot", "Brambles", "Valley" and "Slobber". Please see below link to the story;

Our Rhyme of the Week for next week is: "The Muffin Man".
In these sessions the children are also learning the Makaton signs to the lyrics. There is a video attached to the accompanying email with Sam showing all of the actions.

Language of the week
We are lucky to have a rich and diverse community with lots of different languages. Our language of the week is Bulgarian, which is spoken by one of our class teachers Videlina and her family. Please find below links of how to say "Hello" and "Goodbye" in Bulgarian. Please practise with your child at home.

Learning At Home
The children had a fantastic time during the Ark Farm visit .
At home, why not build on this fun experience by finding out some fascinating facts about the animals we saw?

Here are a few questions to get you started:

What do they like to eat?

What is their baby called?

Do they have any special features?
Success Story of the Week
Each key group has been on a visit to the Hemel Food Centre in the town to buy some fruit. This has enriched the children's recent learning with Talk for Writing "Handa's Surprise".

The children got to look at all the different types of fruit that are available and each got to choose a piece to purchase.
They took the fruit home to share with their family.

Huge thank you to the Manager and staff at Hemel Food Centre for making the visit such a valuable experience.
Please send in any photographs of your child with their fruit to admin@heathlane.herts.sch.uk.
