Head of School's Message

At the end of this term, we will be saying goodbye to Hayley Yendell. Many of you, particularly those with older children, will remember Hayley for her outstanding work and the warm, caring approach she brought to our nursery as Headteacher. More recently, with the creation of Roots Federation, she took on the role as Executive Headteacher, working across the three nursery schools.

During her time with us, Hayley was instrumental in fostering a love for learning and creating a nurturing environment where both children and families feel included and valued. Her dedication to curriculum improvement and collaborating closely with families laid a strong foundation for the growth and success of Heath Lane Nursery and Roots Federation.

We are thrilled to announce that Hayley will be taking on a new role as Headteacher of a local nursery and infant school. This exciting opportunity allows her to bring her vast experience, commitment to education, and passion for nurturing young minds to a broader community. While Hayley's presence will undoubtedly be missed, we are incredibly proud of her achievements and know that she will continue to make a significant impact in her new role.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Hayley and wish her all the best as she embarks on this exciting new chapter. Please join us in expressing our support and admiration for her continued journey in education.

Book & Rhyme of the week

Our Talk for Writing Book is "Magic Beach" by Alison Lester.

Next week the story will move into the imitation phase of the EYFS Talk For Writing programme, where children will focus on the story structure identifying the beginning, middle and end. This will involve activities such as retelling the story with actions, creating story maps and performing the text aloud. This phase is to provide a solid foundation through understanding and practising the language patterns and structure of the text.

Our key vocabulary of the text is "Invincible", "Moat", "Ferry", "Dazzle", "Navigate" and "Beacon". Please see below link to the story;

For the next few weeks instead of Rhyme of the Week the children will be learning different Nursery Rhymes to perform at the Summer Picnic.

Language of the week

We are lucky to have a rich and diverse community with lots of different languages. Our language of the week is Shqip (Albanian), which is spoken by a few of our families. Please find below links of how to say "Hello" and "Goodbye" in Shqip (Albanian). Please practise with your child at home.

Learning At Home

In nursery, children have enjoyed building obstacle courses using a range of resources.

Why not create a simple obstacle course at home?

Use chair to crawl under, a blanket tunnel to go through, or cushion to jump over!

It's a great way to build physical skills, follow instructions and have fun together.

Success Story of the Week

This week the children have enjoyed making a moat.

They moved from building sandcastles in the sandpit to the digging area, working together as a team to dig a channel around a mud mound.

They then went up to the playground to fill up a variety of different containers with water and then carefully transported the water down to create a moat.

It was a very muddy but immersive experience, thoroughly enjoyed by all!
