Head of School's message

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break.

As we return to nursery during these cold January days, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our children and families. We have many new children joining us for the first time. We are delighted to have you as part of our nursery community.

A special welcome also goes to Yuliya, who has joined our staff team this term. Yuliya brings valuable early years experience and enthusiasm, and we are very pleased to have her supporting the children and staff.

We have an exciting curriculum planned for the term ahead, filled with engaging activities designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and confidence in the children as they learn and grow. We are very much looking forward to sharing this journey with them.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

We look forward to a happy and successful term together.

Book & Rhyme of the week

The Structured Stories Book is "Lubna and Pebble" by Wendy Meddour.

Next week the story will move into the imitation phase of Structured Stories, where children will focus on the story structure identifying the beginning, middle and end. This will involve activities such as retelling the story with actions, creating story maps and performing the text aloud. This phase is to provide a solid foundation through understanding and practising the language patterns and structure of the text.

Our key vocabulary of the text is "pebble", "clutch", "flap", "underneath", "beam" and "tight".   Please see below link to story;

The Rhyme of the week is "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes".

This Rhyme had a focus on maths and patterns using repetition of body parts.

Language of the week

We are lucky to have a rich and diverse community with lots of different languages. Our language of the week is Ukrainian, which is spoken by some of our children and their families.

Please find below links of how to say "Hello" and "Goodbye" in Ukrainian. You can practise with your child/ren at home.

Healthy me, Healthy world

As the cold weather continues, we would like to remind families about the dangers of frozen water. Ponds, puddles, and even shallow containers can look safe when frozen but may break suddenly, posing a serious risk to children.

Please ensure children are always closely supervised outdoors and remind them never to walk or play on ice. Staywise safety tips include wearing appropriate winter footwear to prevent slipping, keeping hands warm with gloves, and avoiding icy surfaces wherever possible (see the attached poster for further details).

Together, we can help keep everyone safe during the winter months.

Success story of the week

Our Success Story of the week is all about welcoming our Heath Lane community back together.

This week, we’ve been delighted to see our returning children slip back into nursery life with growing confidence, while our new starters have joined us with curiosity and courage.

Already, the children are beginning to learn each other’s names, share resources, and build those first important friendships that help them feel secure and valued.

As they get to grips with the nursery routine – from group times to free play and outdoor exploration – we can see them thriving in a safe, nurturing environment where their individuality is celebrated and their love of learning is growing.
